Tuition/fee assessments and deadlines
It is the student's responsibility to see that tuition is paid in full by the tuition due date (July 10). Account balances are available through MyUW.
Students may pay fees in person in the Student Fiscal Services (SFS) Office, 129 Schmitz Hall (see map), or mail them to the SFS Office, P.O. Box 3981, Seattle, WA 98124-3981, before July 10. Checks and money orders must be in U.S. dollars and drawn on a U.S. or Canadian bank. Payments received after July 11 are subject to the penalties described below.
Students who fail to pay by the deadline will be charged a late fee. For past due balances over $250, the late fee is $120; for balances between $50 and $250, the fee is $50; there is no late fee for balances less than $50.
Credit cards are accepted on the Web at myuw.washington.edu.
Tuition and fees not paid by the end of the academic quarter (Aug. 21) will be subject to an interest charge of one percent per month, or fraction of a month (12 percent A.P.R.), beginning with the month following the end of the quarter. Delinquent unpaid accounts may be referred to a collection agency and reported to a credit bureau.
The controller is authorized to place holds on the record of any student who fails to pay amounts due the University. Until the hold is cleared, the University: (1) does not release the student's records; (2) does not release transcripts or certified records; (3) denies registration or reapplication.
Application of payments to a student's account
As a rule, payments received for a student's account are applied to charges in order of their due dates. For charges with the same due date, payments are applied first to tuition and related University fees and then to other charges on the account. A payment may be applied to a specific charge by paying in person at the Student Fiscal Services Office at 129 Schmitz Hall (see map). Financial aid from Federal Title IV programs is applied only to required tuition and fees and to loan and aid repayment obligations. The University may not apply such aid to pay insurance and some other optional charges.
