This program examines the major components of information technology—the Internet, databases and programming—and provides a foundation to design and build interactive, information-rich websites with underlying databases.

Courses focus on designing and building a Web interface, creating interactive Web documents, developing and managing content on the Web, and understanding the server environment and architecture of data-driven Web applications. Basic programming skills are provided to design and deploy internet solutions for common business goals and web projects.

Participants will learn:

  • How to approach Web design and organization of Web site content
  • Fundamental constructs that unite all scripting languages, with a focus on the application of JavaScript for the creation of interactive Web documents
  • How to apply Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and XSL to the formatting and design of Web pages
  • Concepts and skills to design and build databases for Web applications
  • How to use XML as an alternative data storage technology
  • How to integrate data in a Web site using MySQL and PHP technologies
  • How to integrate server-side programming, database technologies and client-side scripting to create dynamic Web applications

This program is intended for:

  • Professionals in information technology, publishing, or service fields requiring a comprehensive introduction to widely used Web technologies
  • General practitioners with some knowledge of the Web, who want to enhance their knowledge with practical Web programming skills
  • Professionals without a technical background in computer science, such as those with management or administrative responsibilities, who seek an overview of key facets of information technology
