Build a comprehensive understanding of trauma assessment and intervention for both children and adults as you learn from the leading clinicians and researchers in the trauma field. Explore the impact of trauma based on the unique experiences of your clients. Examine and critique empirically based and innovative trauma therapy techniques. Practice specific skills in assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and empirically-based treatments.
This program is offered in an online + classroom format, a blend of in-person lecture and online learning.
What the Program Covers
- How to assess, diagnose, and treat those who experience trauma
- Neurobiology of trauma and common medications that can help
- Inventive therapy methods for the treatment of trauma
- Trauma within cultural context, including race and gender
- Needs of specific groups, such as children, refugees, veterans, and disaster and torture survivors
- Personal counter-transference and vicarious traumatization
- Effective response to community trauma caused by violence in schools, natural disasters, or large-scale attacks
Benefits
You will gain a greater understanding of the effects of trauma on special groups of victims and the use of the latest therapeutic techniques, and thus improve your ability to help traumatized individuals in clinical practice. Social workers, mental health counselors, marriage and family therapists, and licensed psychologists will earn 120 hours of post-master's continuing education hours.

Level: Some Experience
- Professionals with a master's degree in social work, psychology, counseling, nursing, or related field and experience in clinical intervention and psychotherapy with individuals or groups
