Learn the craft of writing literary fiction by focusing on character development, narrative voice, and point of view. Study works of literary fiction and develop your own stories through concrete writing exercises. Discover how to bring the vibrant characters and ideas in your imagination to life.
What the Program Covers
- The process of writing and fundamental tools for writing literary fiction
- Development of editing and revision skills
- Subtle shades of narrative craft, such as mood, pace, authority, imagery, and structure
- Narrative voice, dialogue, uses of time, and other facets of writing fiction
- Market research and preparation of your manuscript for submission
- How to edit and revise your own work based on feedback from your instructor and peers
Benefits
You will gain insight about writing literary fiction from your instructor (a published author), and from notable guest speakers. You will write, revise, and complete several short stories or parts of a novel using the narrative tools and techniques acquired throughout the program.
