Master the fundamentals of construction management. Learn the principles of commercial cost estimating, including methods for developing a personal estimating manual and cost estimating techniques for the medium-sized general contractor. Explore the principles, practices, and techniques of planning, scheduling, and controlling construction projects. Focus on accident prevention through construction safety techniques. Analyze and debate case studies depicting actual events in construction project management.
What the Program Covers
- Interpretation of plans and specifications
- The key elements of creating accurate, on-time, and on-budget project estimates
- Management of construction projects through planning and scheduling
- The use of microcomputers for cost estimating and construction scheduling
- Cash flow and project controls
- Accident prevention through hazard elimination, safety procedures, and proper equipment use and control
- Skills to work with multiple members of the construction team and manage all aspects of a project
Benefits
You will build the skills to successfully manage construction projects through effective job planning and oversight, precise estimates, and pro-active safety procedures. Upon completion, you will receive either 14 (online program) or 16 (on-campus program) undergraduate credits.
Who Should Apply
Level: All Experience Levels
- Individuals with less than five years of field experience, but who have completed coursework in construction materials and methods, as well as construction contract documents
- Individuals involved in the fields of construction, architecture, or engineering
- Undergraduates who need to meet prerequisites for admission to the UW master's program in construction management.
